Adaptive radiotherapy that tracks tumour movement
I am committed to offering the most advanced and innovative cancer treatments to ensure that you receive the safest and most effective care possible. I am proud to be able to offer SABR with the MR-Linac, a cutting-edge technology, as it provides the highest level of precision in radiotherapy. I offer this treatment in central London.
The MR-Linac represents a significant leap forward in radiotherapy. It combines high-resolution MRI scanning with extremely precise radiation delivery. This allows me to treat tumours with greater accuracy than conventional methods.
What are the benefits of the MR-Linac?
Before deciding on the best treatment for you, we’ll discuss the benefits of the MR-Linac. These include:
Precise Targeting
With real-time MRI, it is possible to monitor the exact position and shape of your tumour during treatment. This technology allows me to target the radiation precisely at the tumour, ensuring that the treatment is as effective as possible.
Reduced Number of Treatments
I offer stereotactic radiotherapy using the MR-Linac for primary lung cancers as well as for metastatic disease in the lung, lymph nodes, bones, spine, liver and other tissues. Stereotactic radiotherapy gives a high chance of eliminating the cancer in anything from 1 to 8 treatments (compared to conventional radiotherapy which can be daily treatment for 6 weeks or more).
A step forward in treatment safety
The MR-Linac is the only system of its kind with automated radiation beam control. If your tumour moves during treatment, the system will automatically pause the radiation until the tumour returns to the correct position, ensuring that you receive the most accurate treatment possible. This additional safety measure means that I can offer treatment to people who have been told that treatment for their cancer is too high risk using less advanced radiotherapy techniques,
Minimised Side Effects
I know how important it is to minimise the impact of treatment on your life. The MR-Linac’s precision reduces the risk of damaging healthy tissue around the tumour, leading to fewer side effects compared to conventional radiotherapy. My goal is to help you undergo treatment with the least disruption to your well-being.
Before finalising your treatment recommendation, we will talk about the scans required for treatment using the MR-Linac. My focus is always on providing you with the most personalised and effective treatment plan possible.
